Latrease Denise Porte

A baby girl was born August 23, 2000 and her name was

LaTrease

She was born in Minnesota and attended Des Moines Public Schools, graduating from Hoover High School a year early. Smart as a whip! She decided to go to college, and received several scholarships. With that great big smile, Dentistry was a natural choice. She attended Iowa State University, but was recently employed by Comfort Keepers, Inc. She cared about people. She learned this caring about people and caring for the community through her parents, (Mary and Anthony) and through participation in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. youth programs, Investing In My Future Inc. programming, and NAACP Youth Council.

LaTrease thought she could sing (only a little), but she could actually paint and draw. She was a very talented and creative person. She wrote short stories and poems. She was an avid reader and loved music, especially hip hop. She liked to swim but not cook, so she was always up for a trip out to eat. LaTrease loved animals and volunteered at several animal shelters. You could usually find her at home on Sunday evenings, watching "Power" with her dog, Blu.

And Suddenly. She was gone. LaTrease passed away on New Years Day, 2020. She was gone too soon at the age of 19. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Frances Brown and Rachel Hoff. and grandfathers, Norman Morris and Julius Porte; and Aunt Ruth Tolbert.

Left to cherish her memory and smile are her parents, Anthony and Mary Wells; Dawn Brown and Elvis Porte; her brothers, Michael Brown, Marco Brown, Elvis Porte, Jr., Erickson Porte and Shaquille Wells; her sisters, LaSha (Andre) Ansah, LaTasha Porte, Takieyah Wells and LaLeah Hays; her grandmothers, Ozell Robinson and Yvonne Heard; grandfather Julius Porte; Great Uncle Harold Lee; Aunts, Uncles, her dog, Blu and a host of cousins, and extended family and friends.
