Lamont Lovelady passed away 8/18/2023.
Lamont Lovelady, AKA “LAMONT ALEXANDER POR-PHIL MOORE JR. LOVELADY”, AKA “MASON”, AKA “I’M INNOCENT” was born on May 15, 1950 to Harold Lovelady Sr. and LuSarah Alexander in Des Moines, IA. He was educated in the Des Moines and Davenport Public School Districts, graduating from Davenport Central High School in 1969.
Lamont furthered his education in Local #33 Plumbing & Steamfitters Union Apprenticeship Program, 1969 – 1972 to become a Master Plumber.
Retiree from the City of Des Moines, with 30 years of service. Lamont started working for the City of Des Moines in 1978 in the Housing Code Enforcement, then went on to the Fire Department retiring in 2006. And Self-employed, Lovelady Plumbing for over 40 years.
Lamont’s love for boxing landed him around the country/world. He was the 1970, 1971 and 1972 Iowa Golden Gloves Champion at 156 pounds. And the 1972 National Golden Gloves Champion at 156 pounds. After turning Pro on September 30,1975 Lamont fought Marvin Hagler, even though he was defeated, he continued his Pro career. After retiring from boxing, Lamont continued his training and trained and coached many others. Sweating, working out daily at the YMCA Downtown. There is no man better you would want in your life! Sharing his Old School Country Wisdom, making sure everybody ate (food and wisdom), (whether you wanted to hear it or not!). Lamont had words of wisdom for you whatever you were going through.
Devoted to All of his Family in every way, and making sure they had the right path to follow. Consistent, Loyal, Committed and that Beautiful Smile, with them Beautiful white teeth!
On August 18, 2023 our Lamont was taken from us and answered the Lord’s call to rest. He is preceded in death by his (Mother) LuSarah Alexander-Glenn; (Father) Harold R. Lovelady, Sr.; (Sons) Lamont Lovelady, Jr. and Charles Lamont Lovelady; (Grandson) Charles Lamont Russian-Lovelady; (Sisters) Norma Houston, Marchetta Claytor, Konya Lovelady, Veronica Turner and Diane Lovelady; (Nieces) Sherry Doss, LaTonya (Tweetie) Edwards; and (Nephew) Lorne Butts.
Left to cherish Lamont’s memory are his (Daughters) Bonnie Harvey, LaMonica Lovelady-Bryan (Bob), St. Paul, MN, LaToya Lovelady-Ware (Frederic), Des Moines, IA, Carleta Cotton, St. Paul, MN; (Granddaughters) LaToyia Jolin Lovelady-Ware, Des Moines, IA, Carniesha, Diamond, Montia, Ahna’Renae, St. Paul, MN; (Grandsons) Bradley Harvey, St. Paul, MN, Desmond Lovelady-Brown, Des Moines, IA; (Great-Grandchildren) ZyAire Lovelady, Damari Lovelady, Des Moines, IA, King Carlen, Isreal, BJ, Braniyah, Legend, Carmello, Seven, Harlem; (Sisters) Shirl Kay Bell, Shirl May Oliver, Davenport, IA, Charlesetta Turner, Des Moines, IA; (Brother), Harold R. Lovelady, Jr., Des Moines, IA; (Special Friend) Patricia Fike and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, YMCA Family, and Close Friends.
