Josephine Pickett

Josephine Pickett passed away on August 22, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada. A public visitation will be held on Friday, September 06,2019, at Henderson's Highland Park Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.Family will be present from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at St. Paul A.M.E.

Josephine Pickett was born to Hubert Gater and Daisy Jacobs on March 20, 1919. She graduated at the age of 16 from North High School with the class of 1935. Later in life, she married William Edward Pickett. Together the two made their home in Des Moines, Iowa, to raise their family.

Josephine worked for the Iowa State Extension Service as a Nutritionist for over 20 years, educating low income families on food prep, and teaching them to cook nutritional meals. She also worked as a cooking instructor at Douglas Elementary, and later gave after school cooking classes to young children in her home.

Josephine was a talented musician and loved playing piano and keyboard. At a young age, she played piano professionally. She was known for entertaining guests during family and church celebrations, and often serenading the members of St. Paul AME with a taste of her Jazz renditions.

She loved family celebrations, and even after losing some of her mobility, she never missed a birthday party or family get-together.

On August 22, 2019, Josephine stepped from time into Eternity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Daisy Gater; siblings, Huberta Gater and Charles Gater, and her husband, William Pickett.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael Pickett, Rick (Constance McCollough) Pickett, Jan {Pickett} Dorsey, Kirby Pickett; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family and friends.Visitation
