Josephine Glahn

It was in 1943 that Josephine S. Glahn was born to Mr. Keyi Siah and Mrs. Kawo Siah of Grand Gedeh County, Liberia, West Africa. She grew up in the home and as an adult she became a farmer and a stay at home mom.

Mrs. Glahn attended the Assemblies of God Church and was baptized in the A.G. Church. Her passion included; cooking, music, dancing and she did like a lot of fun.

When the war broke out in Liberia, she, like thousands upon thousands of Liberians, had to seek refuge in other nations. She was given refugee status for the first time in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. Later in 2004, she came to the United States where she was received as a refugee in Atlanta, Georgia. She also lived in Rock Island, Illinois; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and on November 17, 2011 she came to Des Moines, Iowa for a visit.

Only after three days in Des Moines, she experienced paralysis and was taken to Methodist Hospital (Unity Point), later Mrs. Glahn was moved to the Younker Rehabilitation floor. Subsequently, the decision was made to take her to Manor Care Health Services in West Des Moines on February 1, 2012. She departed this life on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Methodist Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents and her children, Siah Samuel Glahn, Siah Betty Glahn, and Mercy Glahn.

Josephine is survived by her daughter, Philimena Glahn (Augustus Kparyea); her son, Mark (Tryphena) Glahn; her sisters, Emma Free of Norway, Maude, Dinah, Martha, Edith, and Bertha Free all of Monrovia; her brothers, John (Texas), Mark (Des Moines), and Arthur Free (Monrovia, Liberia); her thirteen grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends of The United States, Norway, and Liberia, West Africa.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
