John Willis Swift

John Willis Swift

John Willis Swift was born on March 13, 1942 to Benjamin and Louise (Denison) Swift, in Cleveland, OH. He graduated from Academy High School in Erie, PA and continued his education at Fayetteville State University.



In 1978, John was joined in holy matrimony with Gladys Williams. The two would share their lives together with their two children Melvin and Crystal until John was called home.



An United States Air Force Veteran, John served his country proudly until his honorable discharge with the rank of Airman 1st Class. After his service, John choose to work as a law enforcement professional. He was a corrections officer for the Federal Protective Service Division. His commitment to his craft earned him a Sharp Shooter Award, Most Improved Award and the rank of Deputy Federal Marshall.



In his private life, John was a talented musician and singer. He played the slide trombone, stand up bass and Spanish guitar. He also sang in several groups throughout his lifetime.



On February 19, 2016 John was called from labor to rest. He was reunited on the other side with his parents; siblings, Joseph, Barbara, Ethel, Janet and Agnes and a step-brother, Willie McBride.



Left to cherish John's memory is his loving wife, Gladys; children, Melvin Davis III and Crystal Davis; grandchildren, Corrin Sebree, Amber Davis, Sasha Davis and Amani Davis; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Howard and Mattie Bosley; brothers, Benjamin Swift Jr., Louis Swift and William Swift; cousins, Ruth, Jacob and David Denison, Ruth Hill and Alfred and Anthony Swift and a host of other relatives and friends.
