Jesse Earl Hayes, Sr.

Jesse Earl Hayes Sr. was born to John Sallis and VanEsther (Mayberry) Hayes on January 18, 1956, in Waterloo, Iowa. Together they would relocate to Des Moines, to raise their family.

Jesse received his general education at North High. After his graduation, Jesse enlisted in the United States Army. He served as a Armorer and Unit Supply Specialist until his honorable discharge in 1975. During his enlistment, Jesse would receive the National Defense Service Medal as well as a Marksmanship qualification badge. After his discharge, Jesse attended Des Moines Area Community College where he attained his Associates of Arts degree.

On June 30, 1975, Jesse married Cheryl Denice McGregory in Des Moines, Iowa and they started their family. Jesse was an employee of Steelworks, working as a spot welder for the remainder of his life. Jesse was a member of the Bethel A.M.E Church, taking positions in the church as a Trustee and sang in the Senior Choir He was also the Co-Founder and President of the Mens Ministry. Jesse was a champion on the trampoline, and also the pool and ping pong tables. He loved to cook and grill, a skill he picked up in the first ten years of marriage since Cheryl didnt cook...yet. He was a Big teddy bear; gruff on the outside, but sensitive on the inside. He was an absolute push over for the grandkids.

Jesse left us on September 19, 2017. Waiting on the other side for him were his father and mother, John and VanEsther Hays and his sister, Tina Mayberry.

Left to cherish Jesses memory are his wife, Cheryl Hayes; children, Charice, Jesse Jr, JoLynda and Justin; siblings, Pedro (Theresa), Mona, Michael, Venecia, Victoria, DeLisa, Toiane, Korte and a host of other siblings; grandchildren, Isaac, Jeilah, Isaiah, Jessika, Jillian, Jazmyn, and Jesse III; great-grandchildren, Ava and Raelynn. He also leaves behind a special friend, Rick Sopher. along with a host of extended family and many friends.Visitation
