Jerald Lee Phenix was born on May 24, 1953 to Otis Phenix and Jerlean B. Thomas, in Pine Bluff, AR. His mother moved her family to Illinois where Jerald would finish his education. In 1971, he graduated from Bunker Hill High School in Bunker Hill, IL.
After graduating, Jerald began his career at Monterey Coal Company in Carlinville, IL. He worked as a coal miner and was employed at Monterey for 23 years until his retirement.
At a young age Jerald confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a faithful member of First Community Baptist Church in Royal Lakes, IL. Jerald served as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. He will forever be known for his vast knowledge of the Bible.
Many will also remember Jerald's knowledge of many genres of music and how he would share his love for music with his family and friends. He was a great singer and was known to D.J. an event from time to time. He also enjoyed poetry and watching St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games.
Jerald never married or had children of his own but was friend to all he met.
On January 19, 2016 Jerald received his call from the Lord to transition from labor to reward. He was reunited on the other side with his parents and step-father, Willie D. Thomas.
Left to cherish Jerald's memory are his siblings, Carlos Phenix of Pittsfield, IL, Didi (Rick) Schrier of Des Moines, IA, Glen (Carmen) Thomas; nephew, Christian; niece, Makeena all of Johnston, IA and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, January 27th at First Community Baptist Church in Royal Lakes, IL. with burial to follow at Bunker Hill Cemetery.
