James Rolland Montogomery, Sr.

James Rolland Montogomery, Sr.

James Roland Montgomery Sr. was born to Jesse Howard Montgomery and Geneva Lorine Mayfield on January 28, 1936, in Ft. Scott, Kansas. The family would eventually relocate to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where James would attend Thomas Jefferson High School. Following his graduation, James went on to work for the Northwestern Railroad company, as a track switch operator and in sector labor, until he joined the Navy. Once James completed his period of enlistment, he came back home and began working for Weitz Construction in Des Moines, Iowa.

Eventually, James would meet Madelene James and the two were married in Des Moines, Iowa. The family settled in Des Moines and started their family. Madeline would later pass away.

James enjoyed fishing, boating and playing golf. In his youth and during his time in the Navy, James was a boxer in the middle weight and heavy weight class. This was a skill he taught to his son; James Montgomery Jr. Together, they would work out at the Southside Boxing ring here in Des Moines.

James is preceded in death by his parents; Jesse and Geneva Montgomery, siblings: Erma Brown, Victor, Earl, Frank and Sterling Montgomery; wife: Madelene Montgomery.

Left to cherish his memory is his son: James (Deborah) Montgomery Jr.; siblings: Mary Montgomery, Georgia Montgomery and Meliva (Maurice) Armstrong, Maggie Grace Lorine Montgomery and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Family to do services at later date
