James Broughton, age 70, passed away on October 23, 2024 in Johnston, Iowa.

James “Jim” Arthur Broughton was born on January 27, 1954, in Waseca, Minnesota to Neil and Mary (Miller) Broughton. At age 8, James and his family moved to Urbandale, Iowa, where he attended school. He graduated with the Class of 1972 from Urbandale High School. James began working as a truck driver and transitioned to Steel Well Housing. He later became an owner operator and then worked for M & M Carthage until retirement.
On November 24, 1979, James married the woman after his own heart, Debra Lynn in Des Moines, Iowa. They settled down and started a family, where they were blessed with three children.
James was a member of the Olive Branch Church in Des Moines. He practiced his faith and was a God-loving man. Every Friday and Saturday at 6 o’clock in the evening, James studied the Gospel and partook in the Jewish Sabbath. He had many interests and hobbies. One of his favorite things to do was to play games. James was a gamer. Some of the video games he played were: “Need for Speed,” “Grand Trarismo,” “Donkey Kong,” “Excite Bike,” and duck hunting. He was a movie buff for country-westerns. James also enjoyed watching documentaries about military history. He was a frequent watcher of the “History Channel,” “How It’s Made,” and shows about religion.
James passed away on October 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by parents, Neil and Mary; brother, Mike and sister, Teresa Davis.
Those left to cherish James in memory are his wife, Debra Lynn; children, Chad Hildreth, Benjamin Bohem and Christi Broughton; grandchildren, Alesha Hildreth, Connar Hildreth, Bethany Broughton, Caelin Hildreth, Skadi Mattly, Diesel Mattly; great-grandchildren, Alexander Todd, Corbin Hildreth, Geordy Washington, Denaliah Washington, Noah Hildreth; siblings, Leah (John) McDonald, and Brian (Kathy) Broughton; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
