Harry W. Stanley, Sr.

Deacon Harry Stanley, 80, passed away June 2, 2023.

Funeral services are scheduled at 1pm on June 12 at Imani Chuch in West Des Moines. Visitaion will be held the same day from 11 am until  the hour of service.

Harry William Stanley, Sr. was born on March 14th, 1943 in Iowa to Margaret Losh and Henry William Stanley. He was educated in the Des Moines Public School System, and graduated from East High School.

Harry was married to the former Linda Hart and they built a life together in Des Moines for over forty years.

Harry was employed by the Des Moines Public Schools for many years as a Trainer for the school bus drivers.

Harry was a faithful member of Our Savior’s Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Central District Deacons Association and participated and played his guitar for many of the communion services. He loved music and played the guitar with many of the local musicians in Des Moines (before he was saved). He could even sing a little. Harry was a good cook also. The family loved his spaghetti and noodles. Harry liked to travel and garden. His yard was always full of flowers in the summer. Harry was also a big jokester. He loved to tease and play jokes on the children. He adored his grandchildren and spent a lot of quality time with them.

Harry passed away on June 2, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Henry Stanley, Sr; his daughter, Geni Stanley-Sigadi and five sisters.

Harry leaves to cherish his memory His wife; Linda Hart Stanley; his children,, Jerry, Tony, Harry William Jr, Yolanda and Harry “Gunther” Tyrone Stanley, Donald Raeford and Barry Smith; siblings, Mary Kay Williams and Linda Sue Stanley, a brother, Claudie Stanley, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
