Harlene Louise Cooper (affectionately known as “Weezy”) was born on July 13, 1949 in Des Moines to Harley and Wanda Mae (Gibson) Payney. She grew up in Des Moines where she attended and graduated from Tech High School in Des Moines. Following school, she began working at American Mutual Life Company as an insurance representative. Harlene married Jerry Cooper on December 17, 1965,and from that union they were blessed with three children; Lynea, Armirra and Cassius whom the couple raised their family together in Des Moines.
Harlene loved spending time with her family, attending her family’s sporting events and recitals. She enjoyed watching westerns, her soap operas, Black Friday shopping, and buying gifts for family and friends at Christmas time. Harlene was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie, great auntie, and friend who will be missed by all.
Harlene was preceded in death by her parents, sisters LuWilner “Wilma” Payney and Sharon (Pickens) Miller, niece Wanda (Jones) Mitchell, and stepson Jerry Cooper, Jr.
Those left to cherish her loving memory are her husband Jerry Cooper; children Lynea (Kenneth) Cooper-Pitts, Armirra Cooper, and Cassius Cooper; grandchildren Larry (Ashley) Mason, Heaven Booker, Cassius Cooper, Jr., and Mylah Jo Cooper; great-grandchildren Kamden Mason and Kingsley Mason; brother Harley (Tina) Payney, Jr. stepson Terrance “Terry” (Pat) Stewart, and a host of other family and friends.
