Gladys Sharon Polhemus-Jones passed away on October 28, 2019. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m at Henderson's Highland Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa.
Gladys Sharon Polhemus-Jones was born to Cleo Lionel. Osborne and Myrtle Ann Johnson on September 6,1944, in Des Moines, Iowa. Though the family would move around, Gladys graduated with the class of 1959. She would go on to further her education through the Des Moines Area Community College, where she would receive her degree in computer science.
In 1978, Gladys and Greg Jones were united in marriage at the West Des Moines Open Bible Church, in West Des Moines, Iowa. Together, they would settle in and make the Des Moines area their home.
For many years, Gladys, worked for the Child Support Recovery Unit as a clerical aid. She also spent many years working for the KIWANIS International organization as a office secretary. After a combined total of 25 years between the two organizations, Gladys retired.
She enjoyed walks to the park with her dogs (especially in the fall) or reading Agatha Christie and Louis Lamour novels. She was an exceptional cook and her fried chicken was a family favorite, as were her homemade noodles. Gladys will be remembered as warm and loving wife, a strict parent and a indulgent grandmother.
In death she rejoins her parents, Cleo and Myrtle Osborne; son, Eric Polhemus and all of her siblings.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Greg Jones; children, Mike (Liz) Polhemus, Kenny Polhemus, Patty (Shane Austin) Smith, Valerie Polhemus; grandchildren, Zach Smith, Erica Peterson, Dusty Austin, Nicole Whipps, Ryan Polhemus, Kenny Polhemus and a host of great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
