Georgia Mae Beckton

Georgia Mae Becton, loving known as "Tillie", was born to the late George Bruner& Hattie Mae (Buckner) Bruner on January 3, 1934. She grew up in Fulton, MO and later moved to Jacksonville, IL where she attended school. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1958 where she wed the late Roderick Becton, Sr. and to that union four children were born.

Georgia spent most of her life as a homemaker raising her children. She joined Old Richard Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized in the creek. She later joined Bethel AME Church where she sang in the choir and attended until she made her journey home.

Mrs. Becton had numerous hobbies: cooking, fishing, and traveling. Anytime there was a family gathering, she would make her famous chess pie and potato salad. Whenever she went fishing, the family would have to drag her home because she wanted to throw her line in every chance she could.

Georgia went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the age of 79. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Tina Gardener-Dudley, Regina Mosley, Roderick Becton, Jr., and Keith Becton, 3 sisters, Myrtle Galbreath, Gertrude Lee, and Laura Allen; 2 brothers Willie Bruner and Charles Bruner, 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
