Florence Mae Parker-Lockett

Florence Mae Parker Lockett was born March 28, 1917 to Margaret (Tony) Harris and Henry Holland.

Florence grew up in Des Moines, IA. In 1933, she was united in holy matrimony to Samuel Harold Parker. They built a life and cared for each other until his death in 1965. From that union, they were blessed with six children.

Florence worked at the Iowa State Capitol for 30 years. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and served on the Deaconess Board. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Florence found love again and she and Roscoe Lockett were united in marriage in 1971. The two would then relocate to Gladewater, TX.

Florence loved being with her six children and their families. The children made it a point to come and visit on Mother's Day; and every year the children had a big birthday party for her. She enjoyed fishing, knitting, crocheting, bowling and traveling. And Lord could she cook! While living in Iowa she cooked good old Midwestern food. Once she moved south she became a great soul food cook. She made a peach cobbler that would melt in your mouth!

Florence was called from labor to reward on January 21, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel H. Parker and Roscoe Lockett, who passed on November 26, 2014.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her six devoted children, Itasca (William) Bell, Eric (Marjorie) Parker, Ieta (Harry) Daye, Izetta Parker - Gaines, Clyde (Evangelist Denise) Parker and Illa Tatum, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
