Elfletta Smith

Elfletta Smith, 82 years old, was born February 8, 1935 to Mr. Theodore and Mrs. Queen Ester (Jackson) Smith in Cotton Plant, Arkansas. She was born the 6th of 18 children. She attended Olive Branch Elementary School and later attended secondary at Mt. Pleasant in Cotton Plant, Arkansas.

Elfletta professed a hope in Christ at an early age under Reverend Clifford Mitchell's Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church, Cotton Plant, Arkansas. She was a faithful member until 1963 because she and her family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. In Des Moines, she joined Burns United Methodist Church where she remained a faithful member until her passing.

For most of 'Fletta's' life she was a 'Household Technician' or what we would call a homemaker. She spent it caring for the children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren of her siblings. She was also the caregiver for her aging parents. In her free time, she enjoyed church, reading, shopping, working, crossword puzzles, word search puzzles, watching t.v. especially day time soap operas and listening to gospel music. She was active and instrumental in the family until her own health began to fail. Elfletta will certainly be missed by her family. We love her very much but God loves her first.

Elfletta passed away on April 15, 2017 at University Park and Rehab in Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings. Elfletta is survived by her siblings, Ruthie Thomas, Janet (Clarence) Epps, Gloria Lee, Ora McQueen, Yvette Williams, Arlean (Donnie) Williams, Maggie Green, Theopolis Smith, Arnell (Debra) Smith, Ali (Colleen) Shah, Vanquilla Smith, Sr. and Therloe Smith; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

A visitation will be held at Highland Park Funeral Home on Thursday, April 20th from 1-5 p.m. with family present in the final hour. The funeral service will be held 12 noon, Friday, April 21st at Burns United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
