Elder Anderson Norwood

December 17, 1948 — April 14, 2013

Elder Anderson Norwood

Anderson Norwood was born December 17, 1948 to Ike and Hattie Lee (Craft) Norwood in Goodman, Mississippi. Anderson was the only child of this union.

Anderson was educated in the Durant, Mississippi School system where he graduated in 1967. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. It was in the Marine Corps that he got his training as a mechanic. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged. He furthered his education at Des Moines Area and Holmes Community College, majoring in Diesel Mechanics. His love and expertise in fixing motors allowed him to work for many of the top firms such as Firestone, JD Byrider, Koch Brothers and finally, United Parcel Service.

Anderson loved the Lord above all. He was baptized at an early age and upon receiving the call to preach the gospel he was a dedicated servant at Mission Temple Church of God in Christ. Elder Norwood served as Associate Minister, YPWW teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Men of Distinction President and District Evangelist. He was president of the anniversary committee and co-chair of the Pastor's Aide Committee. When he wasn't busy at church he loved to fish, fix cars, cook his specialties of cabbage, fish and barbeque and he loved political discussions. Elder Norwood was one of God's special preachers. He was serious, hardworking and paid attention to the details of life. He tried to instill that in his children, also. He wanted them to take their responsibilities seriously.

Elder Norwood was called from labor to reward on April 14, 2013, at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ike Norwood and Hattie Craft and his grandparents, Georgia and Etho Craft.

Left to cherish Anderson's memory are his wife of 35 years, Margaret Norwood; his children, Anita (Darrell) Green, Tammie Norwood, Roger Brannon, Eric (Melissa) Brannon, Jabre (Daphanie) Norwood, Christopher Norwood, Jessie Norwood, Roberto Norwood, Mackenzie Norwood and Amber Norwood; 9 grandchildren and a host of extended family from Mission Temple and many friends.
