Elco Patton Jr. was born on July 15, 1953 in Como, Mississippi, to Elco Patton Sr. and Joe Carrie Lockhart. Elco was educated in the local school district in Como and graduated from North Panola High School.
Shortly after graduation, Elco moved to Des Moines, IA. It was in Des Moines, Elco met the love of his life, Debra Dawson. They dated, fell in love and eventually married on February 3, 1978. Together they raised Jermaine, LaKesha, Eric, Latoyia and Carrie Jo. He and Debra loved and cared for each other for over 36 years.
Elco was a strong proud man; who did not take the responsibility of his family lightly. He was the rock of the family and held them together providing for their needs. He was a hard worker who always held down two jobs. His main job as a truck and forklift driver for PDS Packaging, was one he loved. He moved up the ladder and became Supervisor. He was employed there for over 34 years, rarely missing a day. Elco loved antique cars and worked on cars himself. He obtained his certification as an auto mechanic. This helped him to indulge in another hobby; collecting tools.
Elco was also a loving and generous man, who never met a stranger. He was always willing to help. He helped to raise his nieces and nephews. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He instilled his work ethic in them, but also found time to laugh and play. He took them fishing and traveling and never hesitated to give them a wise word of advice. He showed them how to be a God fearing man.
On October 1, 2014, Elco transitioned from labor to reward at the age of 61. Waiting to meet Elco on the other side were his parents, Elco Patton, Sr. and Joe Carrie Lockart; his niece, Pamela Patton and granddaughter, Janessa Patton.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debra Patton; his children, Jermaine Patton (Shakira), LaKesha Patton, Eric Hugar, Latoyia Patton and Carrie Jo Hoag; 16 grandchildren; his siblings, Annie Patton, Irma Byron, and Leon Byron, his uncle, C. S. Patton and best friend, Gordon Jones, along with a host of extended family and friends.
