Douglas Leroy Ashby Sr

Douglas Leroy Ashby Sr. was born in Des Moines, Iowa at Broadlawns Hospital on March 4th, 1951 to Vernon Beechum and Vida Mae Ashby.



He grew up and was educated in the Des Moines Public School system. He was a graduate of Tech High School. A standout athlete, Douglas received award letters in both swimming and baseball.



For 17 years, Douglas served our country in the United States Air Force, assigned to the Tactical Air Command unit. In the years following his military retirement, he was employed by Principal Financial Group where he worked as a computer operator for 17 years.



Douglas married Delona Mae Thompson on October 14th, 1972 and from this union Douglas L. Ashby Jr. was conceived. They later divorced.



On August 5th, 1995, Douglas married Anita Dianne Graham and from this union a daughter, Ashley, was born.



Douglas's hobbies included dancing, listening to music, and spending time with his family, particularly his brother Dickie and others. He was also fond of watching sports, he was a diehard Lakers fan, and enjoyed the fruits of nature.



Douglas left this moment in time at the age of 64, peacefully at home on April 4, 2015, to be reunited with his parents, Vernon and Vida Mae, as well as his brother Michael Ray.



He is survived by his wife, Anita; his sons, Douglas Jr, and Marlon; his daughter, Ashley; his brothers, Richard Williams, Merrill Smith and James Beechum; his sisters Eloise Lloyd, Jackie Groggins and Cecelia Beechum all of Muscatine, Iowa; along with a host of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
