Dorothy M. Onley passed away on October 26, 2020.
Dorothy Mae (Talton) Onley was born September 9, 1938 in Monroe City, Missouri to William Barry Talton and Pauline (Scott) Talton. She received her primary education in Monroe City where she graduated from high school. The family later moved to Des Moines and she attended DMACC and attained a nursing degree.
Dorothy gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She grew up in the Pentecostal church in Missouri but she liked to visit St. Johns Basilica after she moved to Des Moines.
Dorothy married Claude Onley and together they raised their family until Claudes death in 1967. Dorothy finished raising the children while working as a nurse at Lutheran Hospital and Calvin Manor Nursing Home. She retired from Nursing in 1992.
While Dorothy loved her children and adored her grandchildren, she loved the game of baseball. She was a devoted fan of the Iowa Cubs baseball team. She served as a self appointed team mom for many years, while baking cookies for home games. The team paid her way and sent her to Chicago Cub games. Now, not only could Dorothy bake, she made a mean pot of greens, Hoe cakes and fried potatoes. Her homemade potatoe soup was always a family favorite. Roses were Dorothys favorite flower and she grew lots of them in her garden, but you better not steal them or you were in big trouble.
Dorothy made her transition from time into eternity on October26, 2020. She was being cared for by her granddaughter/nurse, Tyrisha Mason in Texas. She left us to join her husband, Claude; her sister, Margie and her brothers, Frank David and Bobby.
Left to mourn Dorothys passing are her children, Tamela (Robert) Millsap, Traci (Glenn) Richison, Claude Duane (Kendra) Onley and Keith (Alisa) Onley; her grandchildren, Tyrisha Mason, Mark Kemp II, Keith Onley II, Kiosha Onley, Kiara Cotton, Savannah Onley, Dana Onley, Aurora Boston, Matthew Collins and Jacquire Onley along with extended family and friends.
