Dorothy Berniece Jewett

Dorothy Berniece (Buford) Jewett was born September 23, 1932 in the mining town of Buxton, Iowa. Bernice and her family moved to Des Moines when she was a little girl.

Berniece was educated in the Des Moines Public School System where she graduated from East High School.



After graduation, Berniece obtained employment at the Veteran's Hospital. Her on the job training helped her attain her CNA license.



Berniece was a former member of Union Baptist Church. After she relocated to Colorado, she was a member of Household of Faith Empowerment Temple. She loved attending service and listening to the choir until her failing health kept her from going.



Berniece married her childhood sweetheart, William Jewett, Jr in 1980. Together they raised eight children, Toni, Terry, William (Cheyenne), Tracy, Mark, Tommy, Tab and Stewart.



Berniece loved life! She was a great cook and loved entertaining family and friends, especially her sisters. She hosted what she called 'grown folks slumber parties' and kept them laughing while playing piano and singing. She also loved playing pranks on family and friends. She loved shopping and was always among the most stylish.



Berniece quietly slipped from time into eternity on March 21, 2015. She was 82 years old. Waiting to welcome her to the other side were her husband, William; her parents Elmer and Joanna (Bowers) Buford; her siblings, Mary Carter Thomas, Phyllis Saunders Valentine, Anna Mae Buckner Cooley and her sisters in law, Betty Jewett and Evelyn Carter.



Left to honor her memory are her children, Toni (Jerry) Ingram; Minister Terry (Min. Larry) Riley, William 'Cheyenne' Jewett, Tracy Jewett, Mark Jewett, Tommy Jewett, Tab (Orlando) Simon and Stewart Jewett; her siblings Margaret Kirby, Ruby (Edward) Frazier, Elmer Buford Jr, Chance Buford and Anthony Buford, 21 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
