Donna Marie Daye

Donna Marie (Dixon) Daye was born April 14, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Wille Mae (Dixon) Cooley. Donna was a lifelong resident of Des Moines, graduating from North High School.



Donna was always a caregiver. Home and family were very important to her. She took great pride in keeping a clean and orderly home. Donna had dinner on the table when her husband came home and her children were well behaved and well dressed. When Donna joined the work force, those things didn't change. She worked for Des Moines General Hospital for 17 years and then Mercy Medical Center for 2 years, until her retirement. She kept things orderly and her co workers liked and respected her. She was a friendly person, but she spoke her mind.



When Donna wasn't working she loved to travel. She and Charles travelled all over the country, California, Texas, Minnesota. She liked spending time with family and friends and she loved children. As her children and grand children grew she became their friend and confidant. She was a wonderful listener and was always able to give good advice when asked. Donna was also a great cook. Nobody made better potato salad or fried chicken. She learned to crochet from Charles and soon had afghans made for everyone.



Donna transitioned from labor to reward on September 20, 2014. Waiting to greet her on the other side were her son, Byron Cooley; her parents, John and Willie Mae Cooley; siblings, Doug, John Jr., Myrtle, Catherine and Lometa.



Donna will be truly missed by her children, Sonia Cooley, Debra Daye, Teresa (Billy Matlock) Daye and Charles Daye, Jr.; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; her uncle, James Floyd, of Dixon, CA and a host of other relatives and friends.
