Diana Marie Smith was born to Henry Kitchen and Helen Hall on October 25, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area, graduating with the class of 1958 from North High School. Later in life, Diana would continue her studies at Drake University. First, her Bachelors in 1968 and her Masters in 1971.
For most of her life, Diana was a High School Teacher in the Des Moines Public School District. She received recognition from the District for her may years of service. Her attention to detail and organization served her well not only as a teacher but during her employment at Wells Fargo as well. And when she had time, she worked as a Mary K. consultant too.
At a young age Diane professed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and committed to serve Him to the fullest. Dianes strong work ethic extended from her teacher career to her service at Burns United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, served as the church secretary and any other capacity when asked. After all that Diane still found time to read her mystery novels and cheer for her San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bulls.
On May 6, 2018, after 77 yrs. of service to God, her family, her students and her customers; the Lord decided that her work was complete. She had run a good race and finished her course and it was time to rest. She was greeted on the other side by her husband, Robert Smith; her parents and her brother, David Lowe.
Diana is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smith; mother, Helen Kitchen; father, Henry Kitchen; brother, David Lowe; Unlces, Lawrence (Pete) Hall, James (Jimmy) Hall; Aunts, Carol (Skeeter) Hall DeVelma Newton; brothers-in-law, Jesse, James, Frank, Samuel, Paul, Ronnie, William, and Donald Smith; Sisters-in-law, Mildred Otis, Mary Taylor, and Wilma Harden.
