Derik Terrell South

Derik Terrell South was born March 21, 1965 to Leroy and Addean (Jones) South in Chicago, Illinois.

Derik graduated from the Chicago Public School system and then enlisted in the United States Army. He received a medical discharge and returned home to find employment. Derik went back to school and obtained his CNA license and worked for several nursing homes before his health failed.

Derik was a friendly, likable guy. He was very laid back and didn't like chaos. He had two guys from high school, Chris and Rodney, that were his ride or die friends. They planned a trip just about every year where they would get together and travel for a guys' getaway. If one of them didn't have money, the other two chipped in to pay for him so they wouldn't miss their trip.

Derik loved watching sports on TV and he loved the ladies. He always had a smile, a wink or a quick line for them. He was the favorite uncle who knew how to have fun.

Derik passed away peacefully on December 9, 2015. He was 50 years old. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy South.

Left to cherish Derik's memory are his mother, Addean South; his daughter Susie South; his siblings, Daryl Lyn Smith and Leroy South, Jr his nephews Niszira South, Delisa South and Malik South along with extended family and friends.
