Dennis Wayne Douglas Cornell

Dennis Cornell passed away on August 5, 2020.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 15th at 11am at True Bible Baptist Church.

Dennis Wayne Douglas Cornell was born October 6, 1952 in Des Moines, IA to Hazel Dale Douglas. Bright eyed and curious , he was raised and educated in the Des Moines area. He attended Des Moines Tech High School. After graduation he enrolled in Des Moines Area Community College where he attained a Culinary Arts degree.

Dennis married the former Robbi Parker in 1981. They moved from Des Moines to Minnesota in 1999. Dennis was a foreman at Kemp Dairy until his retirement in 2008. He and Robbi then returned to Des Moines to be near family.

Dennis had a musical gift. He could play multiple instruments by ear. He played in the Mudbone band for many years. They traveled the Midwest and played as the opening act for many of the big name performers of the 1970s. He loved singing and dancing and was a member of the Our Saviors Baptist Church choir. He also enjoyed fishing and collecting hats. Nothing made Dennis happier than performing and spending time with family.

Dennis passed away August 4, 2020 at the age of 68. Preceding him in death were his mother and step-father, Hazel and Robert Cornell; his brother, Michael Cornell; aunts and uncles, Ruth Lloyd, Virgil Douglas, Harold Douglas, Leola Belle Douglas, Sylvia Douglas, Julie Douglas, Joy Miles and Lillian Johnson.

Left to cherish Dennis memory are his wife, Robbi Cornell; his children, Dennis Thomas, Wayne Camp, Denisha Cornell, Denielle Cornell, Felicia Cornell, Robert Cornell and Denzel Cornell; Siblings, Francine Stine, Christine McGregor, Randy Cornell, Raelynn Wright and Tammy Williams; his grandchildren, Dennis Thomas III, Dontae Thomas, Zhaniya Robinson, Demani Thomas, Alannah Thomas, Iyanna Rhoden, Julian Robinson III, Dominic Thomas, Ziyanna Rhoden, King Elliott, Donovin Connell and a host of extended family and friends.
