She grew up in Missouri and attended Douglass Elementary and high school until it’s closing in 1955. Deloe subsequently came to Des Moines, Iowa where she completed her education, residing with an aunt and uncle, who encouraged her to persevere, even though the social structure for black youth at that time in Missouri, was uncertain. Dee, as she was affectionately called, developed into a bright and courageous young black woman. She met a young man in Iowa, whom she thought shared her hopes and dreams, and were married after her short stay in Iowa.

She worked for the Polk County Juvenile Home for eight years and after that, for Deluxe Check Printer Corporation for twenty years until their downsizing in 1996. Deloe took early retirement option and began to enjoy decorating and remodeling her modest home. Dee’s grandchildren became a major part of life. She was so very proud of each and everyone of them. Deloe had a special place in her heart for all her grandchildren.

Deloe was a member of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist in the past and later began fellowshipping at Kingdom Life Ministries International. She participated in a Foster Grandparent Program through the Des Moines Public School at Capitol View. Deloe read with students for four years. She was passionate about making wicker baskets and anything wicker. Deloe enjoyed plants, especially house gardens with tomato plants. She loved to be active and stay in tune with current events, news and politics. Deloe loved having a good time with her family and laughing.
