Debra Kaye (Hawkins) Brooks was born February 5, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa to Irvin Hawkins and Helen Frances Thompson (Baker). She received her primary education in the Des Moines Public School system, prior to graduation.

Debra was a hard worker and worked as an Administrative Assistant/Secretary for several firms. Most recently she was the Secretary for Maple Street Baptist Church for over 10 years.

Debra married Julius Brooks on March 10, 2007 at Maple Street Baptist Church. The two were inseparable.

Debra loved dressing up and looking good. To dress you have to shop; and she loved doing that. She was a real movie buff and liked high tech gadgets. She said there was always a "how to book" to show you how they worked. Debra was a great cook, but she let her husband take over the cooking several years ago. Her Frittatas and chicken fricassee were the best. She enjoyed listening to jazz and gospel music and Christmas was her favorite time of the year. She was so resourceful and artistic-she could do anything! Debra loved being around her family. Family gatherings with her children, sisters, aunts and grand children, were favorite times.

Debra passed peacefully from this life to eternal life on December 26, 2020. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Thompson; her brother, Stevie Scott and sister, Michelle McFeders.

Left to cherish Debras memory are her husband, Julius; her children, Korey M. Reed and Francess E Hawkins; her father, Irvin (Almo) Hawkins; grandchildren, Malachi J. Reed, Tiana M. Hawkins, and Khalea J. Wright, great grand daughter, Nhadia Reed; her sisters, Carol Scott, Dawn (William) Davis and Linda Patel; her aunt, Verna Baker; sister in law, Sarah Greenlee and a host of extended family and friends.Visitation
