Deacon Larry Brown

August 30, 1944 — October 20, 2021

Deacon Larry Brown

Larry Brown was born August 30, 1944 in Whiteville, LA., on his dads farm. Perkin Brown and Annie (Green) Brown were the parents of ten children. They all worked on the farm together until Larry relocated to Iowa in 1971 to help his brothers with Brown Brothers Fencing.

The brothers had their craft in their hands. They labored long and hard for 24 years to make the business a success. In 1995 Larry went out on his own; and with the help of his wife Judith, they enjoyed continued success. Larry helped to install commercial and residential fencing in Ft. Madison, IA, South Dakota, Louisiana, Texas, Arizona and the Budweiser plant in Houston, TX. and Mercy Medical Center. He also contracted for Des Moines Steel, Sears and Perkins Brown Fencing in Beaumont, Texas.

Larry was a quiet man, not given to lengthy conversations, but he met everyone with kindness, bestowed respect and covered people with warmth and sincerity. He was a trustworthy man; devoted to family and most of all the 5 grandchildren he adored.

Larry was a member of Maple Street Baptist Church for over 35 years. It was his honor to serve the church he loved as a Deacon for over 30 years. He was Mission President, Sunday School Deacon and drove the church van for over 10 years providing transportation to all who needed a ride to or from church. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a man of great faith, trusting God to carry him through the toils and snares of this life. A humble man, who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved to watch boxing and wrestling, eat good creole food and listening to music. He also loved horses.

On October 20, 2021, Deacon Larry Brown felt the soft touch of an angels wing as she whispered in his ear to “Come Home”. He was met on the other side by his parents, Perkin and Annie Brown, his siblings, Nettie Mae Ross, Annie (Alfred) Wise, Perkin Brown Jr, and Pinnell Brown; his niece Ruth Williams, LC and WC Gorellell and Grandmother Mariah Green.

Left to shed tears are his wife of over 50 years, Minister Judith Brown; children, State and Federal Meat Inspector, Reverend Kelvin (Anita) Brown, DMPD Lt., Kenneth (Yolanda) Brown, Pilot, United Airlines/artist, Leonard (Raquell) Brown, Jr. and SFC (Army,Retired) Minister Quanda Brown; his beloved grandchildren, Jillian, Zakia, Tariq, Leonard and Janessa Brown; siblings, Elsie Mae Hoston, Wilma Ross and Willie Brown along with a host of extended family, church members and Friends.
