Deacon Donald McQuerry

Deacon Donald McQuerry, 90, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 9:00 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral service will immediately follow his visitation and begin at 10:00 with Reverend James Wright officiating at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.

Deacon Don McQuerry was born on January 4, 1935 to Thomas McQuerry and Virginia Wood in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from East High School in 1953.

After graduation he joined the Army on August 3, 1953 he was in the Airborne unit stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. He often reminisced on the time he jumped out of airplanes and helicopters!

When Don returned from the Army he spent time with his family and working for Curing Tires and Midwest Concrete. Later he was hired at Firestone and retired after working for over 25 years.

On February 17, 1978 Donald married Beverly Williams. They shared 45 years of marriage.

In 1989 Don gave his life to Christ and was ordained as a deacon with his brother Clarence (Mose) McQuerry. Deacon McQuerry prided himself on being a deacon. He enjoyed driving the church van, singing in the choir and helping out in anyway possible. He was a man on a mission to do God’s work.

When Don wasn’t helping out at church he was spending time with his family. He loved spending time with his family especially with his grandkids and taking vacations.

Deacon McQuerry departed his life on February 12, 2025. Proceeding his death are his parents Virginia and Thomas McQuerry, brothers Clarence and Charles McQuerry, sisters Ella Mae Cavil and Janet Eden, daughter Lynette McQuerry and bonus daughter Donna McQuerry & bonus son Charles Turner.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Beverly, his daughters Kim (Wesley) Wright, Francine McQuerry, Cynthia Baring, Jackie Ewing, Marsha (Roy) Sumlin and Crystal McQuerry. His bonus sons Michael McQuerry, Sr. and Anthony Williams, Sr. and niece Jennifer Carr. Don has 30 grand children and a multitude amount of great-grandkids and great-great grandkids.
