David Cooper, 90, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2024, at Azria Health Park Place in Des Moines, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services are taking place Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at Faith Covenant Church International; Interment will follow immediately and take place at Chapel Hill Memory Garden.
David was born on March 3, 1934 in Grand Gedeh, Liberia. He was the beloved son of Yolor Tyen and Baie Gwelu. David was the last child of his mother. His mother, Baie Gwelu had three children. Mary Cooper is the oldest of two siblings and Mary is still alive. Annie Jolo is the second whom is deceased. From an early age, David’s compassion, creativity, and determination stood out, setting a foundation for a life filled with purpose and passion.
David started elementary school in Grand Gedeh, Liberia and moved to Monrovia at the age of 17 to continue his education. He graduated from New Port Junior High School in Monrovia, Liberia on New Port Street. David attended William V.S. Tubman High School and graduated in 1956. He spent two years attending Monrovia Accounting College. David worked at the Ministry of foreign affairs from 1959 to 1967 as secretary to the minister. He also worked at the Ministry of Commerce as Senior Inspector from 1968 to 1970. Lastly, he worked at the ministry of finance from 1971 to 1978 as an assistant commission of enforcement.
David was married to Annie Cooper from October 31, 1965 and they have been together since. David and Annie have 9 children together but 2 are deceased. Their legacy is carried on through their children, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
In remembrance of David, we reflect on the love, laughter, and legacy he left behind.
