Daniel Kellogg passed away on February 9, 2017, at Taylor House Hospice after a courageous two-year battle with Leukemia. He was 55 years old.
Dan was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended All Saints and St. Joseph's Catholic Grade Schools, and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1979.
Dan met his wife, Dorothy, and they were married in 1984. They had two wonderful children, Renee and Michael. Dan and Dorothy were happily married for 33 years.
From his teen years throughout his life, Dan created a successful career in the automotive service industry. He began as a 16 year old car porter at Betts' Cadillac in Des Moines, and was later promoted to a Service Advisor. From there, he had a long career at Ramsey Pontiac, and became one of the premier Service Advisors in Des Moines. Dan was known for his expert diagnostic abilities and outstanding work ethic.
Dan spent many years volunteering as a lector at St. Peter's Catholic Church, as well as entertaining his fellow parishioners as a bingo caller. He later attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winterset for almost 20 years.
Dan was known to family, friends and coworkers as someone you could ALWAYS count on when you needed help. Whether it was helping you move, lending a hand for car repairs, giving you a ride, or getting you a deal on a vehicle...whatever the need, he was there! He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially camping, fishing and mushroom hunting. He was a huge New York Giants and Nascar fan. He had fond memories of meeting NY Giant's linebacker, Mark Herzlich and race car driver, Kenny Wallace. Dan also had a great love for dogs, including former family members Lucy, Toto, and his current buddies, Gizmo and Wrigley. He was notorious for his amazing and colorful sense of humor. If you were lucky enough to spend time with him, you were guaranteed to be sore from laughing! His humor and incredibly generous nature will be missed by all.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Philip Kellogg and mother in law, Joanne See.
Dan is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Renee; son, Michael; mother, Darlene; siblings, David (Mona), Kathy Hutt (Brian Broughton), Karol Hargis (Ken), Karla Smith (Miles) and Karen Clark (Rick); many nieces, nephews and friends.
