Connie Avant- Carrillo

Connie Jean Avant-Carrillo, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2014, with family by her side at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A resident of Des Moines for the past 50 years, she was born on December 23, 1939 to Eugene Frazier and Dorothea Mae Frazier (Brown).



On November 25, 1958 she married Donald Avant Sr. They divorced in 1970 but remained close friends. She married Miguel Angel Carrillo in 1990.



Connie attended North High School. She was later employed by Norwest Financial and later went on to open her own daycare center. She retired twenty years later but went back to work part-time at the John R. Grubb YMCA where she worked until 2012.



Connie had a heart of gold and always enjoyed helping others. She would always lend a listening ear to someone in need. She was a very giving person who had a strong belief in GOD. She spent her free time going to garage sales, concerts and casinos.



Connie is preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Dorothy Davis and Francis Lloyd.



Connie is survived by her husband Miguel; her daughters, Glenale Smith, Donna (Luther) Smith, Traci Avant, Marcel Avant and Michelle and Rochelle Humphrey; her sons, Donald (Deena) Avant, Jr., Brandon (Brandy) Avant, Marcel Avant, and Craig (Elena) Avant; her sisters, Paula Kinney, Judy Heariold, Kathy Heariold, Mary Satterfield, Barbara Lindsay and Dianne Pippens; her brother, Larry (Tauri) Hale; her twenty-four grandchildren; her eighteen great-grandchildren; along with a host of extended relatives and friends.
