Clyde Sherman Duke

Clyde Sherman Duke Sr. was born on June 11, 1947 to Arthur and Pauline (Miller) Duke, in Des Moines, IA. He was educated in the Des Moines School District and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War.

After his military service Clyde returned to Des Moines where he met the love of his life Loretta. The two would share love and life while raising Nicholas, Clyde Jr., Christopher, Tonera, Tanya and OKeitha.

Clyde worked as a respiratory therapist at Methodist Hospital. In 2013 he received the Julie Ploessl Award of Fame for providing first class service to the patients he served. He had a winning smile and kind word for his patients, always taking extra time to put them at ease.

In his spare time Clyde enjoyed playing dominoes, bowling and traveling. He was a bike enthusiast, riding in Ragbrai regularly. Clyde was a good natured family man. Attending backyard Barbeques and always playing jokes on unsuspecting victims. Clyde also was given the honor of taking part in a Remembrance Flight for United States war veterans.

On March 25, 2018 Clyde transitioned from time into eternity. He was greeted on the other side by his parents; siblings, Paula, Arthur Jr., Tommette, Pat and nephew, Yohnce.

Left to cherish Clydes memory is his significant other, Loretta, children, Nicholas (Lisa) Wolfskill, Clyde Sherman Duke Jr., Christopher (Krista) Kelly-Duke, Tonera Whitaker, Tanya Whitaker and OKeitha Nelson; 21 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Michael (Paulette) Duke, Jonna (Harold) Brown, Donald Duke, Arnold Duke, Mildred Duke, Sandy (Greg Willis) Henderson and a host of other relatives and friends.
