Chester Lee Swinnie

Chester Lee Swinnie, Jr. was born March 31, 1947 to Chester Swinnie, Sr. and Freddie Mae (Abernathy) Swinnie in Kansas City, Kansas.

Chester moved to Des Moines 38 years ago and was a self employed Shoe and Leathersmith. He specialized in shoe repair.

When Chester wasn't working he loved tinkering on old Ford Thunderbirds, playing pool and fishing. He loved children and spent a lot of time with his grandchildren being supportive of their efforts, teaching them to be caring and independent young people. He was known thoughout the community as a charming but straight forward person.

Chester stepped from time into eternity on March 4, 2014. He was 66 years old.

Chester was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia; his parents and grandparents; and a brother, Freddie Middleton.

Chester is survived by his children Joshua, Phillip and Chestina Swinnie; his grandchildren Jaemal and Trejahn along with a host of extended family and friends.
