Catherine "Cat" Weaver made her transition to the Lord's house on August 5, 2022.
Homegoing services were held on August 13, 2022 at Corinthian Baptist Church..
Catherine (Smith) Weaver was born December 14, 1947 to Walter and Mary Smith in Portageville, MO. She was the 6th of 12 children. She graduated from Des Moines Technical High School and later attended Drake University.
Catherine spent the next 45 plus years taking care of everyone. She worked at Mercy Hospital for 45 plus years first in respiratory therapy and later as a neuro-diagnostic tech. She was later promoted to a supervisor position. Her love for people showed in her care for her patients. After retirement she worked for the re-election of Barack Obama and was a dedicated Team Leader. Catherine loved to travel every chance she got until the COVID pandemic stopped her from traveling.
She was a Christian and dedicated her life to serving God. Catherine started her Christian walk under the leadership of Rev. James Harris. Catherine moved her membership to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Clifford C. Wright. While there she served on the Trustee, Finance, and Treasury Boards and was Vice President of the Mission, always thanking God for His goodness. Later she was led by the Holy Spirit to Corinthian Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jonathan Whitfield. She joined the Mothers Board and the leadership committee. Her love for Christ and helping others was her calling. She had many favorite scriptures. One of her favorites was the 23 Psalm. (She encouraged her grand children to read it).
She married Emanuel Weaver on June 8, 1970 and from that union they raised three children; Saretha Smith, Donyia Weaver, and Travis Weaver. Saretha was inclined to be a musician, playing the tuba and flute; while Travis was inclined to play the drums and trumpet. Boy were we glad when their practice was over.
Catherine enjoyed taking trips with her grandchildren, teaching them the importance of family, knowing them and their roots. Fishing trips were sometimes scary with the grandkids since no one could swim. Some of the stories they couldn't believe were true - like no TV or no remote control, and only three channels on TV, or that the TV actually went off at 12:00 midnite.
Even though she could not carry a tune, she loved to sing. She never loved to cook but was known for her potato salad and banana pudding. As her health slowed her down, her niece Theresa stepped in to be her chef and provide meals for her on a weekly basis. May God bless you. (nicknamed Boo, love you always).
Catherine went home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2022. Waiting to welcome her home were her mother and father.
She leaves behind her husband, Emanuel Weaver Jr.; children, Saretha, Travis, and Donyia; grandchildren, Brittney Smith, Tanisha Frazier, Theodore Frazier, Davuntae Williams, Clarence Williams, Travis Weaver Jr., Xavier Weaver, and Kai Weaver; 5 great grandchildren; forever daughter-in law, Ling Weaver and forever son in law, Theodore Frazier II; brothers, Albert (Roseanne) Smith and Frank (Gretchen) Smith and sister in-law, Sheila Smith; her longtime friend, Mother Clardzell Harris (known to Cat as Peewee). Lets not forget her adopted sister, Rev. Clifford Wright.
