Calvin Nesbitt

Calvin L. Nesbitt, 98, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the VA Central Iowa Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. His visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Kyles A.M.E. Zion Church in Des Moines from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Calvin's funeral will immediately follow his visitation and begin at 12:00 p.m. with Reverend Moulton officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery. 

Calvin was born in Des Moines, Iowa on December 11, 1926 to Calvin and Elizabeth (Lawther) Nesbitt. He grew up in Des Moines and after high school enlisted in the Navy. Calvin served on the USS Tolland as a 3rd class chef to the captain during WWII. After the war he returned to Des Moines and married Ruby Spencer. He also began working for Armstrong Tire where he stayed working for over 20 years. Having the entrepreneur’s spirit, he started his first business named Des Moines Home Cleaning in the 1960’s. He then went on and added in an insulation business, and his final company was a weatherization resale store. Calvin was really a jack of all trade and loved to serve the community and friends with any of their needs. He had great love for his family, working, helping people, carpentry work, and watching the national news. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Those left to cherish his loving memory are his daughter Galya Nesbitt of Des Moines, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank and lifelong friend Ruby Nesbitt.
