Bryan Smith

Bryan Smith passed away July 18, 2023. 

Bryan K. Smith Sr. was born on February 21, 1961 to George and Madelyn Mae Delaney (Smith) in Iowa. He received an education and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1979. Bryan was an All-American Quarterback in high school. He continued his education at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He declared Sports Management as his major. Bryan also received a Coca-Cola Award in college.

Bryan was a Plant Manager throughout his career. Recently, Bryan worked for Continuous Material and loved it very much. He was dedicated and displayed an excellent work ethic. When Bryan had cancer, his coworkers were vey supportive. They became his work family.

Bryan worshipped and participated in fellowship at Saint Paul AME Church. He was served as an usher and was also on the Committee board.

There is so much to be said about Bryan Smith. Our brother, partner, uncle, friend and more. Bryan is loved by so many because he loved PEOPLE! No matter where he was or who you were, he’d spark a conversation, crack a joke, or have you on the dance floor all night. Bryan gave back to the community by coaching little league and football to children. Bryan loved football and was a huge Dallas Cowboys Fan. He liked yardwork and travelling. He cleaned up nice and loved to dress. He was always the life of a party. The 4th of July was his favorite. He’d prepare well in advance to make sure everyone had a good time. Most importantly, HE SET IT OFF with fireworks! He was in secret “competition” with the surrounding blocks. Bryan would do a FINALE at the end, and then clean the streets. By morning, no one would ever know we were there. Bryan knew how to have a good time. He also spent quality time with his four-legged child, Lucious. But he absolutely LOVED his family. They could ALWAYS count on him to show up and support in any way he could. During his battle with cancer, Bryan kept his faith strong and fought with dignity and courage.

Bryan K. Smith Sr. passed away on July 18, 2023, after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Madelyn Mae (Smith) Delaney.

Those left to cherish Bryan’s in memory are his long time companion, Carmen Jackson; children, Dezeree Nicole Jackson-Long (Nicholas Long), Bryan Kenneth Smith Jr., DeBrytae Smith; step-children, Tuffy and Chavon Jackson, Brad Brett Quigley (Bobby Ratliff); father, George Delaney; siblings, Dianna Handley, Roxanna Delaney Jackson, Darrell Delaney, Sandra Walker (Charlie), Richard Delaney and Vanetta Wright (All in Des Moines, IA), Lovetta Johnson (Lincoln, NE), LaWonder Johnson (Omaha, NE), Geneo Johnson (Lincoln, NE) and Belnie Johnson (Omaha, NE); grandchildren, Jalen Jackson- Bundy, Deja Haynes, J’Vone Haynes, Nova Marie Smith; special someone’s, Tashawna Jackson and Iyanna Gibson and a host of extended family and friends.
