Billy G. Boyd was born was born May 14, 1931 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Will and Mary Dee Boyd. He was one of six children.
After high school, Billy and his brother, Joe, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged. Upon coming home, Billy married Delores (Dee) Brown of Oralabor, Iowa. From this union two children were born; Kimberly and William.
Billy worked in Des Moines for many years. he was the first Black conservation officer for Easer Lake, in southeast Des Moines. The family lived on the lake for several years while improvements were made. Additionally Billy worked for Iowa Power and Light and the Firestone Tire Company. In 1982 Billy and Delores moved to Salina, Kansas where they started a commercial cleaning company; Boyd's Cleaning Service; which they operated until they retired.
Billy loved to fish, and he loved to tell stories, and he loved to tell stories about fishing. He could talk about fishing for hours and often hosted large fish fries for family and friends. He often took the children fishing, admonishing them, "Be quiet, you'll scare the fish away." He used the time for quiet instruction in life's lessons. Billy never met a stranger and could converse on many subjects. He was a devoted family man, though he was also a little onery. Though Billy was not a member of any specific church, he was led to Christ by his nephew, Reverend Isaiah Brown.
On August 31, 2014, Billy passed peacefully from earth to glory. He was 83 years old. Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Delores; his parents, Will and Mary Dee Boyd; his brother, Joe and sister, Rosie.
Billy leaves to cherish his memory his son, William "Butchie" Boyd (Virginia); daughter, Kim Levell; his grandchildren, Eddie, Nikki, Ashley and Jordan; great-
grandchildren, Kennedy, Mackenzie, Allure, Harrison, Mason and Harlow, all of Atlanta, Georgia; his brothers frank Boyd (Barbara) of Des Moines, Iowa and James Boyd of California and Sylvester Boyd; his sister, Betty Frye of Virginia and a host of extended family and friends.
