Betty Jean Duncan

April 12, 1933 — November 20, 2015

Betty Jean Duncan

Mrs. Betty Jean Duncan was born on April 12, 1933 in Centerville, Iowa to Schyler and Gladiator Jones. Betty was one of four children.

In 1972, Betty married the love of her life, Fredrick L. Duncan. Their union gave birth to one son, Stephen.

Betty was a strong woman of faith. Every morning when she awakened she would read a prayer for her family. She spent the first few minutes of the day in prayer. Education was very important to Betty. She was an educator and was very active in her community. She served on the scholarship board for the Delta Sigma Theta's, the Evelyn Davis Center and Forest Avenue Friends of the Library. She was a great cook, you would have loved her pot roast! She passed her culinary skills on to her son, also. She loved to travel and attend musicals; "The Lion King" was her absolute favorite. Betty was so smart, she helped Fredrick write a book about Frederick Douglass and the abolition movement. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her granddaughter.

Betty passed away from this life on November 20, 2015 at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, Schyler and Gladiator Jones; and her two sisters, Audine Davis and Francis Jones.

Betty is survived by her husband of 43 years, Fredrick Duncan; her son, Stephen (Darcy) Duncan; her granddaughter, Alicia Duncan, her siblings, Donald and Robert Jones; along with a host of extended family and friends.
