Bessie Lee Greene was born on September 23, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Herbert and Lucille Austin.
Bessie was a homebody and enjoyed watching TV. She was a card player, her favorites were pitty pat and deuces wild. She worked at various restaurants including Hasty Tasty. Bessie had an easy going spirit and loved to entertain her family and friends. She loved listening to Al Greene and she could even sing a little. Her children remember her always playing and singing along to James Cleveland's "Open Our Eyes" on Sundays and cooking good Sunday dinners.
Bessie stepped from time into eternity on June 1, 2015. Waiting to greet Bessie on the other side was her husband, Jefferson Greene; her parents, Herbert and Lucille Austin; her children, Jerry, Jeffery and Belinda; her grandson, Dwayne; her siblings, Alberta, Clara and Leroy and her sister in-law Jackie.
Left to cherish Bessie's memory is her daughter, Nina (Lisa) Greene; her grandchildren, Christie, Yashica, Jovan, Antonio, Nakisha and Lil' Belinda; 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Annie; a very close family friend, Lee Fields; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends.
