Bernie “Faye” (Patton) Brown was born October 19, 1953 in Sardis, Mississippi to Christene Octavia (Thompson) and C.S. Patton. At a young age her father relocated to Des Moines, Iowa to provide a better life for his family and sent for them. Bernie attended Des Moines Public Schools and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1971. While attending Tech High she, along with her cousin Mattie, and very close friend, Charolette, became wrestling cheerleaders.
She worked for Northwestern Bell, (US West, Qwest) as an investigator for 30 years before being forced into retirement due to the closure of her department. Faye, as she was affectionately called, was always a very sweet, very private, softspoken, meek and mild person that took pride in taking care of her family, from her ONLY daughter LaShara, to her parents, siblings, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. She also had a Godson, Shon Taylor, who she loved like her very own.
She was joined in marriage on February 14, 1998 to William Carlton Brown and from this union gained a step daughter, Jessica Brown.
Her favorite pastimes (outside of “taking care” of her loved ones), were watching her soaps, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful (she could recite them word for word). She would watch Channel 8 all day until The Masked Singer, Alter Ego, The Voice or the Bachlorette and Sunday Best (that she would sit and watch with her Brother Curtis) came on.
On December 29, 2021 Bernie answered the Masters call to rest. She was 68 years young. Waiting to welcome her to the other side were her parents, C.S. and Christene Patton.
Bernie leaves cherished memories with her husband, William Brown; her daughter, LaShara; her step daughter, Jessica Brown; siblings, Nancy Patton, Curtis (Wanda) Patton, Steven Patton and Gary Patton; grandchildren, JCeon and Joshiya; Godson, Shon Taylor and extended family and friends.
