Arthur Lloyd Jefferson, 91, of Des Moines, Iowa left to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, December 15, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. His visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Henderson’s Funeral Home. Immediately following visitation his memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Josephine Wolder officiating.

Arthur was born on September 20, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Ardella (Woods) Jefferson. He graduated from North High School in Des Moines where he was a valued member of the football team.

At the age of 19, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and returned to Des Moines and worked at Iowa Meat Packing Plant. After that, he became the 2^nd black man to be hired by MTA as a bus driver. He left there and worked at Iowa Power and Light until retirement.

In 1957 he married the love of his life, Sandra, who he affectionately called San Diego and Jefferson. They were happily married for 66 years.

Arthur loved to cook on the grill, bake 7 Up cakes and make his famous fudge, which he happily shared with others. Many people were waiting by the door at Christmas time hoping to receive some.

Arthur was a funny, hardworking, family man who helped a lot of people. He loved to joke, tease and harass others, all in good fun. The phrase “here comes trouble” was often said.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ardella Jefferson, brothers Lester Jefferson, George Jefferson, John Jefferson, Leonard Jefferson, Harold Jefferson, and Phillip Jefferson, sisters Blanch Miller and Rose Hutchison.

Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife Sandra Jefferson, children Theodore (Tereasa) Jefferson, Mark (Christine) Jefferson and Candy Stewart, grandchildren Talisha, Jamel, Cassandra, Jesse, Shannon, Tirzah, Tara, Marli and Caitlyn, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
