Archie Ray Newman Jr. was born on April 3, 1951 to Archie and Gertrude (Campbell) Newman Sr., in Des Moines, IA. Archie spent the majority of his childhood in Des Moines before moving to Kansas City, MO to live with his father. Archie then moved back to Des Moines with his mother where he graduated from Technical High School.

During his time in Kansas City, MO Archie was a member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ where he was baptized by Reverend Earl Able. Archie continued his walk with God and it showed in how he mentored young men and guided his family through thick and thin. At a young age Archie also learned how to play the drums. This continued to be a passion for him throughout his life playing in several bands. Mud Bone, Skooter Krunch, and Dick Danger Band. Archie was also known for his extensive Timberland collection, his Frisbee collection and he loved to fly his drone. Throughout his life Archie worked several jobs but spent the majority of his working years working as an operating engineer for Harper-McAninch Corporation.

Archie was well known affectionately as Pops to all who loved him. He carried himself with a calm, reserved demeanor and was a man of strength, integrity and wisdom. Archie always put his family first. Archie looked forward to holidays, and traditional family gatherings. His grandkids especially loved their onesie sleepovers with him. His smooth, laid back style graced the city streets as he would Cruz thru, listening to music, chilling behind the tinted glass of his Escalade, with his signature plates "NOT4U2C". Archie was symbolic of a guardian behind that glass, now an angel with wings, free to fly.

The bass in his voice drew respect and commanded others to listen and many valued his opinion. Archie always spoke truth about the world he lived in and his intellectual conversations expanded many minds. He never hesitated to share his tribulations, victories and his life and love of others. Archie always could deliver a mesmerizing beat on his drums. Archie captivated audiences in Des Moines, Iowa to as far as Singapore, Asia. With the rhythm within his soul from a little boy until his heavenly decent. His lifes song may have ended but his melodic memories will forever sing within our hearts.

Archie stepped out of time into eternity on June 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie R. Newman Sr., Gertrude E. (Campbell) Newman and brothers, Steven "Jelly" Newman and Santino "Sonny" Campbell.
