Helen Marie Moreland

Marie (Graybill) Moreland was born September 20, 1954 in Council Bluffs, IA. Her parents were Donald and Edith (Sime) Graybill. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High in Council Bluffs.

Helen made her way to the big city of Des Moines in 1979. She attended DMACC and received her CNA certification. Helen cared for some patients as a private caregiver. She also worked briefly for a hotel. For the last ten years, Helen was a funeral attendant for Hendersons Funeral Home.

Helen was always a whirlwind, but after her retirement from the funeral home, she relaxed by caring for the grandkids. She loved riding them around on the lawnmower, planting flowers around the yard, baking with and for them, going to garage sales (like shopping at Younkers) and all the while drinking a diet Pepsi! Helen was a great cook. She was the best at mac n cheese and was always good for an appetizer for the party. Helen loved entertaining at back yard barbeques. She collected elephants and other knic knacks; and she loved scrap-booking.

Helen was married to William R. "Pot" Bonwell, Sr. Helen loved her some Pot. They traveled when they were younger but after his health began to fail the became homebodies until he passed away.

Helen passed away on March 31, 2018 at her home. She and Pot are together again. What a reunion that was; along with her parents, her sister Alice Mersick; her mother in law, Francis Bonwell (whom she cared for); and her uncle, Kenneth Mash.

Left to cherish Helens memory are her sons, William R. Bonwell, Jr, Travis (Chablie Ames) Moreland and Robbie (Kathy Ault) Moreland; her brother Donald Graybill, jr. her beloved grandchildren, Lee Ames, Leah Thompson, Dominic Moreland, Leo Ames, Aalliyah Moreland, William Bonwell, III, Lexi Moreland and Travea Moreland; her uncle, Norman Mash Godson Bryce Mathis; her funeral home family, other extended family and friends.Tribute Service
